No body is buried in the concrete of the old Columbia
bridge.
A long-time rumor is false that a worker died and was
embedded in concrete as it was poured to create the Route 462 bridge across the
Susquehanna River.
Columbian Jim Haug knows this because he spent more
than three weeks looking at microfilmed copies of the Columbia News and
Lancaster Intelligencer Journal. The newspapers ran from the time work began on
the bridge May 12, 1929, to its dedication Nov. 11, 1930. […]
