Escalators and Untied Shoe Laces (Two Variants)

Gabrielle Bell, Everything Is Flammable (Minneapolis: Uncivilized Books, 2017), 142. “[W]hen I was little, I was also afraid of escalators. It was because a relative told me that sometimes an escalator would grind up children who didn’t tie their shoes.”

Fran Krause, Deep Dark Fears (Berkeley: Ten Speed Press, 2015), Fear #53. Unpaginated.

“My mom told me that, if I rode the escalator with my shoes untied, it would grab the laces and suck me under.”

Marianne Faithfull’s Mars Bar (LSD Variant)

Bob Rudnick & Dennis Frawley, “Blood, Sweat, and Tears ‘Fires’ Kooper.” The East Village Other, vol. 3, no. 21, April 26-May 2, 1968, p. 7.

“Marianne Faithful [sic] lay naked in the middle of the floor with an alleged LSD soaked Mars bar in her crotch. At the moment the constable entered, Brian Jones was leaning over her eating the evidence.”

[This refers to the infamous drug raid at Keith Richards’ estate that engendered the Mars bar rumor. Brian Jones was not there, although Richards and Mick Jagger were. This is the first time I’ve seen it claimed that the Mars bar had been soaked in LSD.]
