Police rank mall-abduction rumors with Bigfoot tales

The email warns of attempts to abduct women and girls in broad daylight at crowded shopping centers. It warns that a new gang initiation requires members to kidnap, rape and beat women, then dump them in parking lots.

For years, authorities have tried to keep such messages from spreading, debunking their claims as urban myths.

Abu Dhabi Police deny rumours about children luring victims

False reports on messaging applications about gang using children to lure victims

Abu Dhabi: Police have denied rumours circulating on social media about gangs who commit heinous crimes after luring people to houses.

Mobile phones have been buzzing with rumours about a gang that has been using children to lure victims into its trap. Rape, robbery and organ theft supposedly awaits those who take the ‘lost’ children back to their ‘homes’.

However, Abu Dhabi Police have confirmed these rumours are false and the seemingly authentic document circulating on messaging applications contains a forged police report.

The document states a person from the police force filed a complaint alleging that children were found on Abu Dhabi streets holding signs with their home addresses. The children would claim they were lost when in fact these addresses led the victims to the gang members. […]

Absurd it may look, but a picture of convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee superimposed on the face of moon posted in Jamaat-Shibir Facebook page “Basherkella” was actually sold to a large number of people as an omen.

And that omen, to these people, is a call to fight the government and free Sayedee, a top Jamaat leader, at any cost.

This "divine" Facebook picture, posted on Saturday evening by one “Carbon Tasnim” of Faridpur, was circulated by Jamaat-Shibir activists through cell phones and computers.

The caption reads: From late Friday night to early Saturday, people from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia saw Sayedee's face (in the moon). Such an image is God's sign that true devotees are honoured in different ways. […]
