Galion Police investigating reports of laced Halloween candy

GALION, OH (WOIO) - Officers at the Galion Police Department are currently investigating reports of laced candy passed out to children over the weekend. According to the Department’s Facebook post they believe the candy to be “laced with something.” They were made aware after parents reached out to the department after their child became ill Sunday night. He was trick-or-treating on the West side of town near Arlington Avenue, Tidd Drive and Highland Avenue. According to police, the boy is recovering, but put out a warning for area parents.

Riverside County sheriff’s investigators on Friday, Nov. 2, sought to dispel rumors posted on social media that a 7-year-old Lake Elsinore girl died Thursday after eating candy following a night of trick-or-treating on Halloween. Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters performed CPR on the girl about 11:20 a.m. Thursday at a home on Audrey Drive. She was hospitalized and later died, the Sheriff’s Department said. Information provided to detectives by the family suggested that the child may have had a reaction from a known food allergy, a news release said. Police in a community east of Calgary are looking into an incident after a parent discovered a needle inside one of their child’s Halloween treats. After returning home from trick or treating on October 31, a young girl in Strathmore opened a Rice Krispie treat she had received and found a needle inside the candy. Sturgeon police say two pills found in Halloween candy

West Nipissing police say they have received two complaints of suspicious pills being found in Halloween collection bags in the last couple of days. The first complaint was received on Halloween night while the second was received the next day. In both instances, the suspicious pill was found in a child’s collection bag of goodies and not wrapped or hidden in any particular piece of candy. Father gets four years in prison after son ingests meth after trick-or-treating

BUCYRUS - A man whose son ate methamphetamine will spend the next four years in prison after pleading guilty to two felonies this week. Cambray Carwell, 25, of Galion, was arrested Nov. 2, just a few days after his 5-year-old son was taken to the emergency room for seizures, according to Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall. The boy became sick Oct. 28, the night he went trick-or-treating in Galion. "It was determined that he was positive for methamphetamines," Crall said. Carwell initially blamed the child's sickness on potentially tainted candy collected in the community, which Crall said led Galion police officers to warn parents of the potential danger. […]
