Most of Dublin has been plagued with loud banging noises believed to be fireworks for the month of August. Cable ties, balloons and eerie markings had been used by the dog thieves over the summer months to mark a house with dogs so that they could come back at a quieter time to carry out the steal. But it is believed that the dognappers find this method more effective as the fireworks set off a sea of barking with the thieves able to quickly go from house to house by following the dogs' wails.
