Crooks are sketching signs to indicate if homes are worth breaking into, with police calling on the public to keep an eye out.

A secret code used by burglars is being employed across homes in Harrow, police have confirmed.

Council street cleaners began noticing the signs chalked outside of households in Stanmore, which have nationally been reported to each indicate a different meaning, ranging from letting criminals know if the home owner is a woman living alone to signalling that there is nothing worth stealing. No body is buried in the concrete of the old Columbia bridge.

A long-time rumor is false that a worker died and was embedded in concrete as it was poured to create the Route 462 bridge across the Susquehanna River.

Columbian Jim Haug knows this because he spent more than three weeks looking at microfilmed copies of the Columbia News and Lancaster Intelligencer Journal. The newspapers ran from the time work began on the bridge May 12, 1929, to its dedication Nov. 11, 1930. […]
