ASHEVILLE — Social media has spun spottings of tripod
bears into an illicit international smuggling ring for left-front bear paws.
Seriously. A well-meaning group called Help Asheville Bears has offered a
$7,000 reward (up from $5,000 a few days ago) for information leading to the
person responsible for maiming bears in the Arden and Swannanoa area. According
to their Facebook page, they believe they've tallied between six and eight
animals who have lost paws to someone hoping to sell the parts on the black

ASHEVILLE - It's time to put the myth of the bear paw
bandit to rest. Since August, theories about a mysterious population of three-legged
bears in Asheville have swirled on social media and made headlines as far
afield as the UK. The conversation is driven by a Facebook page called Help
Asheville Bears, which argues the injuries are the result of an illegal
trapping operation. The managers of the page say they've identified 11 black
bears with missing paws or limbs. District biologist Justin McVey, who works
for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, said such injuries are
likely caused by car collisions. Meanwhile, one could ask why would someone
take only a single bear paw? […]

A ‘killer clown’ dressed all in black is said to have
struck in Penryn for at least the second time in a week. […] Following the
reported sightings on Facebook other frightened locals reported their children
being approached by what appears to be the same man and he's been seen carrying

Hyatts Middle School in Delaware County are charged in the case of tainting
their teachers' food with bodily fluids. Video obtained by 10TV shows a portion

Researchers at Australia's first 'human body farm'
have observed that dead bodies move significantly when they decompose and
believe the movement could be important in death investigations. Researcher
Alyson Wilson made the discovery using time-lapse cameras to film the
decomposition of a donor body in 30-minute intervals over 17 months. […] "What
